I woke up this morning ready to tell you about how pleasant Maryland coach Randy Edsall was earlier this week at ACC media days, about how refreshing it was to see him let his guard down a bit, smile, and answer questions honestly instead of off a paper statement he had written in his mind.
And then I came across this:
"We would appreciate the current administration looking forward to the future and dedicating their energies to continue to forge ahead as a world class University and successful football program without demeaning the accomplishments of those who came before." - Ralph Friedgen
This statement is about one year too late. Instead of coming in the weeks or months after Friedgen was fired, it comes now, as Edsall is doing the best he can to put the past behind him and move the team forward. Friedgen should heed his own advice, as the timing of this letter certainly doesn't support the notion of moving forward.
Edsall has made mistakes in his first season as Maryland's head coach -- including taking a few shots at his predecessor along the way. But he deserves credit for his patience at ACC media days and the effort he has put forth in being more approachable. Whether or not Maryland will be a bowl team this fall remains to be seen, but it's clear those within the program are working hard to try and get there.
The Terps have moved on. It's time Friedgen did, too.
