Top 25 player countdown: No. 20

No. 20. Michael Campanaro, WR, Wake Forest

2011 stats: He started 11 of 12 games he played in last year and finished fourth in the ACC in receptions per game (6.1) and seventh in the league in receiving yards per game (69.4). He caught 73 passes for 833 yards and two touchdowns.

Previous ranking: Not ranked.

Making the case for Campanaro: Surprise. There’s another Deac on this list. “Camp” gets the nod more for what’s expected of him this season than because of what he has done in the past. He had a breakout year with Chris Givens on the roster last season, as they became the most productive pair of receivers in school history with 156 combined catches. Campanaro, though, is a more complete player than Givens was, and ACC fans will see that this year as he becomes the go-to player for Tanner Price. With Givens’ early departure for the NFL, Campanaro will now get the spotlight -- and the receptions.
