There were no surprises for the ACC this past weekend when the Associated Press released its preseason top 25:

No. 7 Florida State
No. 14 Clemson
No. 16 Virginia Tech

North Carolina, Georgia Tech and NC State also received votes.

Florida State seems to be permanently attached to the No. 7 this preseason, as that's where the program has appeared at or near in almost all of the preseason polls. The two biggest poll questions facing the ACC right now are:
  • Can Florida State maintain its spot in the top 10?
  • Who will be the next team in?

To me, there's no excuse for Florida State not to deliver on the expectations this year. As for the next team in, I've said all offseason that NC State is good enough to be a top 25 team this year. It was a bit surprising to see Carolina get more votes, given the Tar Heels have a new staff, a postseason ban, and have lost to NC State five straight times. UNC and Georgia Tech, though, could definitely throw the Hokies off course this year.

There's just not that much separation yet in the ACC -- unless, of course, FSU can stay where it is or move up.
