The ACC's Atlantic Division race just got more interesting.
With NC State's 17-16 upset of then-No. 3-ranked Florida State on Saturday night in Raleigh, the Wolfpack stepped over the Seminoles in the hunt to win the division. Funny thing, though, those Atlantic Division standings. If you look at the top right now, you'll find Maryland, a program that finished 2-10 last season but has started out 1-0 in ACC play this year. The Terps are the only team remaining in the division that is undefeated in league play.
The best teams in the division, though, are Florida State, Clemson and NC State. With FSU's loss, Clemson is now back in the conversation. The Tigers still need FSU to lose again, though, and they have to win out to defend their division title. NC State controls its own destiny and owns the head-to-head tiebreaker against Florida State. The Noles simply can't afford to lose again.
So who wins this division now? Can Florida State hang on, or is there another upset in the making? The Noles still have to play at Miami and at Virginia Tech on a Thursday night. NC State still has to play at rival North Carolina and at Clemson. The Tigers might have the easiest ACC road left, with NC State looking like the toughest remaining opponent.
In this conference, anything can happen. It just did. So who wins now? Cast your vote.
