If you're talking to a Hokies fan, this isn't even a question.
Virginia Tech fans are sure, they are absolutely certain, there is no way, no how their team loses to Virginia. Nope. Not after winning eight straight and 12 of the past 13 in this series. Not after dominating the Hoos 38-zip last year on their home turf.
Couldn't happen. Could it?
Virginia Tech has lost three straight. So, yeah, it could.
This year's game is in Blacksburg, one of the toughest venues in the ACC. Bowl eligibility could be on the line for both programs if -- and that's a big if -- they both win this week. The Hoos host North Carolina on Thursday night, and Virginia Tech has to travel to Boston College in search of its first road win of the year.
Before we get ahead of ourselves, it's important to realize the additional possibility that neither of these teams goes bowling -- that the regular-season finale could be worth little more than in-state bragging rights. Virginia and Virginia Tech both have to win out to go bowling.
