Dismal forecast for ACC bowls

If colleague Mark Schlabach is right, it will be another abysmal bowl season in the ACC. Schlabach recently released his bowl picks and wrote the ACC will go 1-5, with a lone win by Florida State over Northern Illinois in the Discover Orange Bowl:

Belk Bowl: Schlabach's pick -- Cincinnati 31, Duke 20

Russell Athletic Bowl: Schlabach's pick -- Rutgers 27, Virginia Tech 23

Franklin American Mortgage Music City Bowl: Schlabach's pick -- Vanderbilt 27, NC State 21

Hyundai Sun Bowl: Schlabach's pick -- USC 49, Georgia Tech 21

Chick-fil-A Bowl: Schlabach's pick -- LSU 27, Clemson 24

Discover Orange Bowl: Schlabach's pick -- Florida State 34, Northern Illinois 24

A 1-5 record with an Orange Bowl win in this case is better than a 5-1 record with an Orange Bowl loss. Another losing bowl record, though, and the critics will just keep piling it on. It's been way too long since the ACC has come out on top. Check out the ACC's bowl records over the past seven years:

2011: 2-6

2010: 4-5

2009: 3-4

2008: 4-6

2007: 2-6

2006: 4-4

2005: 5-3

My picks are slightly different than Schlabach's. Check back Monday morning for an ACC prediction. Game-by-game predictions will be revealed closer to game time.
