If my colleagues Mark Schlabach and Bruce Feldman's bowl predictions come true, it would be a great postseason for the ACC. This first assumes that Virginia Tech will win the ACC (again) and play in the Orange Bowl -- not the national championship. Both of them are predicting Miami will wind up in the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl. Schlabach has the Canes facing Ohio State, which would be an entertaining preview of a nonconference game that's already been scheduled, and Feldman has Miami playing Boise State.
The ACC had an NCAA-record 10 bowl eligible teams in 2008. That's lovely, except for the fact that only four of those teams actually won. The conference would be better off having two teams playing in BCS bowls and a better overall postseason record even if there are fewer teams who make it. And at this rate, that scenario seems more likely.
