The latest power rankings are out, and here's how my top 10 looked:
1. Florida
2. Alabama
3. Texas
4. Virginia Tech
5. USC
6. Ohio State
7. Boise State
8. Miami
9. Cincinnati
10. Iowa
19. Georgia Tech
For those of you complaining that Miami is still below USC, Ohio State and Boise State, remember the AP didn't even have the Canes ranked in the top 10 last week. I moved Miami up a notch this week after its win over FAMU and LSU's loss. Boise State and USC didn't play, so it was hard to justify moving them down. We'll see what USC does against Notre Dame this weekend. Having been at Lane Stadium on Saturday, though, I'm now convinced Virginia Tech is one of the top five teams in the country. And, yes, I can see Miami still moving up in the rankings.

And, yes, to answer a question I've been getting a lot today: Georgia Tech has to beat Virginia Tech to get some serious national recognition. Against FSU on national TV Saturday night, the Jackets' weaknesses on defense were exposed, and at least on my list, that's what's keeping them down. They gave up 487 yards to Mississippi State and 539 to FSU.

My biggest problem with this week's AP Top 25 wasn't at the top, it was at the bottom. With Auburn, Mississippi and Missouri falling out, there was some room to add new teams. But personally, I cannot justify moving Notre Dame into the rankings when: A) it did not play; and B) its wins came against opponents who are a combined 13-16 this season. Michigan (4-2) is the only team Notre Dame has played that has a winning record so far and the Irish lost that one. I know Jimmy Clausen is on a hot streak, but show it against somebody like USC.

And Utah? Utah's wins have come against opponents that are a combined 7-14 this year. All 4-1 teams are not created equally. Just because the Mountain West has become a much stronger conference and Utah had an incredible run a year ago doesn't mean it has to be in the Top 25.

As for Houston, it crept back into the rankings after a win over a now 2-4 Mississippi State team? Houston lost to UTEP. I know it beat Oklahoma State and Texas Tech, and the Cougars got credit in the rankings for it when they did. But the loss to UTEP dropped them out appropriately, and a win over Mississippi State shouldn't be enough to get back in.

I went with Pitt, Auburn and Wisconsin as my final three teams. Pitt just came off an important win over Connecticut. I didn't think it was fair to drop Auburn out of the rankings after one loss after having them at No. 13 last week. And Wisconsin lost to a top-10 team in Ohio State and is still 5-1. Wisconsin outgained the Buckeyes 368-184 in total yards, controlled the clock, and held Ohio State to eight first downs.

We all know it's the top that counts, though, and the Hokies are creeping up there.
