ACC releases 2013 schedule

The ACC released its full 2013 football schedule Monday, and as expected, Florida State travels to play Pittsburgh in the marquee Labor Day matchup on opening weekend.

Quite an introduction for the new league members.

The game, set for 8 p.m. ET Sept. 2 on ESPN, will be the first meeting between the two schools since 1983, when the Panthers defeated Florida State 17-16 at Pitt Stadium.

There is one other tantalizing non-Saturday matchup in Week 1: North Carolina will travel to play South Carolina on Thurs., Aug. 29, on ESPN, a game moved up two days.

Several other interesting midweek matchups are on the slate, including a Friday night game between Wake Forest and Boston College on Sept. 6. Here is a quick look at some of the others:

  • Thurs., Sept. 19: Clemson at NC State

  • Thurs., Sept. 26: Virginia Tech at Georgia Tech

  • Thurs., Oct. 17: Miami at North Carolina

  • Thurs., Nov. 14: Georgia Tech at Clemson

  • Fri., Nov. 29: Miami at Pitt

The big Atlantic Division matchup between Florida State and Clemson is set for Oct. 19 at Death Valley. The Noles have a bye headed into the game; Clemson does not. The Tigers host Boston College the week before. Syracuse, the other new ACC member, opens league play with a tough one, too -- hosting Clemson on Oct. 5.

That means both the Panthers and Orange get opening ACC matchups against the top two teams in the league. Welcome, Pitt and Syracuse.

Heather and I will have plenty more on the schedule in just a little bit, so stay tuned.
