According to ESPN's Brett McMurphy, the value of Virginia Tech quarterback Logan Thomas can't be underestimated. Check out this excerpt from McMurphy's story on Louisville's scheduling:
The Cardinals also had an outside shot to open the season against reigning champion Alabama in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game in Atlanta.

Alabama will play Virginia Tech, but the Hokies considered withdrawing from the game if quarterback Logan Thomas left early for the NFL draft. Louisville would have replaced Virginia Tech, but Thomas returned for his senior season.

Thomas' draft stock dropped last fall, but his stock within the program certainly didn't. Obviously the Hokies have a better chance against Bama with him in the lineup, as opposed to a first-year starter, and Thomas told me he is looking forward to the opportunity.

"Honestly, it will be the biggest game of my career," he said. "The bowl game against Rutgers was the biggest game of my career until this one comes up. Obviously we have a task in front of us, we’re playing the best team in the nation the past few years. It will help push us through spring semester, spring ball and into the summer. It will help us continue to keep our eye on what’s important because we know if we don’t come out right, it could be a long day for us there. But if we come and play and prepare the way we can, we’ll be just fine and we can compete with anybody. All the guys know that. Right now, that’s what we’re all working towards."
