We’ve got one more week until our planes take off for Greensboro, N.C., the site of this year’s ACC Football Kickoff, where members of the media meet with players and coaches for two days of interviews. In order to help us get to the unofficial start of the season, we’re counting down 10 of the most interesting storylines in the ACC this fall:
No. 5: How will three new head coaches fare?
Coincidentally, they’re all in the Atlantic Division, as Syracuse’s Scott Shafer, NC State’s Dave Doeren, and BC’s Steve Addazio will all enter their first seasons in the ACC. On the surface, Addazio has the most work to do, as he inherited the roster with the least amount of depth. The Eagles have been recruiting well, though, and Addazio is the only one of the three entering the season with a proven quarterback. BC is scary thin at running back, though -- one area Syracuse is loaded. NC State’s biggest question mark, aside from quarterback, is probably the secondary, where the Pack bid farewell to veterans Earl Wolff, David Amerson and Brandan Bishop. Syracuse should have the easiest coaching transition, as Shafer was the program’s defensive coordinator for the past four seasons. The players know him, his personality and his expectations. All three will face different challenges as they try to put their stamps on their respective programs, but they also share two big obstacles: Florida State and Clemson.
