No issues for Duke in the season opener.
The Blue Devils rolled to a 45-0 win over NC Central on Saturday behind three touchdowns from backup quarterback/all-everything man Brandon Connette. In fact, coach David Cutcliffe was asked earlier this week about what he expected Connette to do in this offense. Cutcliffe said Connette had cut his body fat, gotten faster and gotten himself in the best shape of his career.
It showed against NC Central. Connette threw two touchdown passes and ran for another in the victory. Six different players scored for the Blue Devils, including starting quarterback Anthony Boone. Duke has placed an emphasis on improving its run game. Though NC Central was overmatched, Duke did run for 258 yards.
Duke also should be pleased with the shutout -- its first since beating North Carolina 41-0 in 1989. Jeremy Cash, the Ohio State transfer, came up big. So did Jamison Crowder, who had a punt return for a score.
