Clemson wide receiver Jacoby Ford won’t be speaking to his older brother Davy this week. It’s nothing personal, it’s just how it is every year when the Tigers face the Noles. It’s understandable.
In 2000, Davy had an 82-yard touchdown run against the Tigers, the longest run against Clemson in the Tommy Bowden era.
“I know his heart’s still with Florida State,” Jacoby said. “He’ll be here. Unfortunately, I have to give him a ticket to go to the game.”
It’s a good thing, because Jacoby has a chance to make history on Saturday with his big brother watching. Here’s an obscure stat for you, thanks to Tim Bourret in Clemson’s sports information department: Ford and C.J. Spiller need just 293 combined all-purpose yards in Saturday’s game against Florida State to become the greatest all-purpose duo in NCAA history.
Marshall Faulk and Darnay Scott combined for 10,253 all-purpose yards at San Diego State from 1991-93. Ford and Spiller have 9,961 between them, and are averaging about 300 combined all-purpose yards per game.
“That will be a great opportunity to accomplish that with C.J., for this Clemson program,” Jacoby Ford said. “We know that we have a chance to do it, but we just have to put ourselves in position to win the game and hopefully the scoreboard will take care of itself.”
With big brother watching, of course.
