UNC tailback Shaun Draughn fractured his left shoulder blade (scapula) on the first play from scrimmage in Carolina’s 19-6 win over Duke on Saturday and will miss the remainder of the season, the school announced Sunday.
Draughn started all nine games this season and is Carolina’s leading rusher with 567 yards on 124 carries. He ranks seventh in the league with 63.0 yards per game.
Draughn will be missed, but Carolina fans can take solace in the performance Ryan Houston had against the Blue Devils. Draughn, who was usually used as the team's short-yardage back, ran for a career-high 164 yards against Duke. The question now is whether he can consistently perform like that, because that's what the Tar Heels will need him to do, starting next weekend against Miami.
