Tulane, which was scheduled to host Georgia Tech on Sept. 6, opted out of its four-game agreement with the Yellow Jackets -- just two days after the ACC released its entire schedule.
According to Georgia Tech, construction on Yulman Stadium, the Green Wave’s new $55 million facility, may not be completed as expected by Sept. 6. The schools couldn't find another date, but Georgia Tech has already begun discussions with potential replacements and expects to announce a new opponent as early as next week.
“We are extremely disappointed that Tulane has decided to cancel the four-game series with Georgia Tech, beginning with our game in New Orleans next fall,” Yellow Jacket senior associate athletic director Ryan Bamford said in a prepared statement. “The timing of Tulane’s decision (after the ACC schedule was released earlier this week) is especially tough for us.”
Tulane exercised the cancellation provision in the contract, which included a cancellation fee. The original contract was signed in 2007 for games to be played in the 2014, 2015, 2018 and 2019 seasons.
