Duke's White wins top AD honor

Another year, another athletic director of the year honor for Duke's Kevin White.

The boss of the Blue Devils' athletic department took home the Sports Business Awards Athletic Director of the Year honor Wednesday night in New York, beating out fellow ADs Mike Alden (Missouri), Greg Byrne (Arizona), Judy Rose (Charlotte) and Scott Woodward (Washington).

The award comes nearly a year after White became one of four FBS ADs to win the Under Armour AD of the Year Award, which was presented by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics.

Coming upon the end of his sixth year at Duke, White saw the Blue Devils reach unprecedented heights on the gridiron, as they went 10-4 and won the ACC's Coastal Division title, falling to Florida State in the league title game. Coach David Cutcliffe won five different national coach of the year awards, in addition to being named the ACC's coach of the year for the second straight season.

A week ago, eight of Duke's teams posted perfect scores of 1000 in the most recent APR data released by the NCAA, with 14 of the Blue Devils' squads being honored by the NCAA for placing among the top 10 percent in their respective sports nationally.

Duke ranked seventh in the latest Learfield Sports Directors' Cup standings, which were released last month.

Duke's men's lacrosse team, meanwhile, is again in the Final Four this weekend after winning the national title in 2010 and 2013.
