It's a slow week for ACC football, as six teams have byes. That doesn't mean there isn't still some good football to watch. Here's the lineup:
GAME OF THE WEEK
Clemson (3-2, 1-1 ACC) at No. 21 Wake Forest (3-1, 1-0) 7:30 p.m. ESPN: There shouldn't be any arguments about this one, but the case can be made it's a bigger game for Clemson than it is Wake Forest. A win by the Demon Deacons would help bring some separation to the crowded league standings, but Tommy Bowden & Co. need it to redeem themselves after the loss to Maryland. If the Tigers are going to be in the hunt for the program's first ACC title since 1991, it has to start Thursday night.
SATURDAY SPOTLIGHT
Notre Dame (4-1) at No. 22 North Carolina (4-1, 1-1) 3:30 p.m. ABC: It's hard to believe, but at this point last year the Irish were 0-5. Now they enter Chapel Hill with the same 4-1 record as North Carolina, and are 6-1 over their past seven games, dating to last year. Those six wins, though, have come against teams that either finished with or currently have a losing record.
COULD BE INTERESTING
East Carolina (3-2, 1-1 C-USA) at Virginia (2-3, 1-1) Noon: Where did the Cavaliers come from last weekend against Maryland, and where on Earth has that team been? If Virginia plays the way it did against the Terps, ECU isn't going to be the only team left on the Cavaliers' schedule in trouble.
FUN IN FLORIDA
UCF (2-3, 1-1 C-USA) at Miami (2-3, 0-2) 3:45 ESPNU: This is a good opportunity for the Hurricanes to put a halt to their two-game losing streak and build upon their gritty second-half performance against the Seminoles. UCF is struggling offensively (109th in passing offense, 113th in total offense).
IS THERE ANOTHER GAME ON?
Gardner-Webb (2-3, 0-1 Big South) at Georgia Tech (4-1, 2-1), 3:30 p.m.: The ACC should extend its winning streak against FCS opponents to 14-0 with this one. The Runnin' Bulldogs opened their league play against Charleston Southern last week and lost their third straight league game, dating to last season. And yes, that would be the same Charleston Southern team that Miami beat, 52-7, in its season opener.
