No staff changes at Maryland -- yet

Maryland coach Ralph Friedgen said he hasn’t had enough time to contemplate any staff changes and that none have been made yet.

“As soon as I get a break from recruiting I’ll try and evaluate where we’re at,” Friedgen said in a teleconference on Tuesday afternoon. “Everybody is on the road right now. I’ll try and do what I can within the next couple of weeks, when I’m in, or coaches come in and I have a chance to sit down to talk to them.”

Maryland athletic director Debbie Yow called Friedgen at 9 a.m. this morning to tell him he was welcome to come back and coach in 2010, despite his 2-10 finish this year. Friedgen said that in his meeting with Yow this weekend, he talked more about the future of the program than he did the past, as he thinks it’s heading in the right direction.

It’s rare, though, that a coach is welcomed back after a 2-10 record, a school-record for losses. And Friedgen knows it.

“I’m very thankful for the opportunity,” Friedgen said. “I would hope I wasn’t just judged on this year. I think it shows the confidence the administration has in me and in our program. I’m willing to repay that with everything I have to make this the team we expect it to be.”
