WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- First, expect Clemson to throw the ball downfield more tonight. That's a result of left tackle Chris Hairston re-joining the offensive line. They've been doing it at practice all week.
Second, Clemson athletic director Terry Don Phillips is keeping quiet about his plans for Tommy Bowden, and has repeatedly said he doesn't discuss personnel issues during the season. While you might think his silence speaks volumes, I just asked him about giving that impression.
He said it's the policy, and that if it were any other way, he'd be fielding questions about it every week. He pointed out the 2003 season, which started off with a loss to Georgia and ended with four straight wins.
As of right now, it's a valid point, because Clemson is just as much in this thing as anyone in the Atlantic Division. Three hours from now, though, it could be a different story, and the questions about Bowden's future will be valid.
Even if it is every week.
