The ACC's three ranked teams -- North Carolina, Wake Forest and Virginia Tech -- all lost. Unbelievable. And so much fun. This is anybody's year. Here are a few thoughts on each division after this weekend:
ATLANTIC
- In all fairness to Maryland, the Terps' loss to Virginia doesn't look so ugly now. They were just the first victims of Version 2.0 of the Cavaliers. If Darrius Heyward-Bey continues to play like he did against Wake Forest, look out. And if the Deacs don't find some offense quickly, count 'em out.
- While its record doesn't separate Florida State from the rest of the one-loss bunch just yet, its play does. The Seminoles appear to have been the most consistent team on both sides of the ball in the past few weeks.
- Boston College might have the toughest schedule remaining of the four teams still in contention, but clearly the Eagles have proven they can beat what many considered the best team in the ACC to this point.
COASTAL
- Georgia Tech is now leading the Coastal Division and has more wins than anyone else in the conference (six) but is still one win shy of bowl eligibility. The Yellow Jackets have arguably the toughest schedule left in the Coastal, and it starts this weekend against Virginia.
- As good as the Cavaliers have looked in the past three weeks, there is still no guarantee of a bowl game. They've still got to find three wins in a tough schedule that includes Georgia Tech, Miami, Wake Forest and Virginia Tech. For all of the hype surrounding North Carolina, the Tar Heels took a huge hit with two Coastal Division losses now. It's not going to be easy to rebound with back-to-back games against Boston College and Georgia Tech.
- Virginia Tech's problems in the passing game were finally exposed, and I'm going to guess not all of this falls on Tyrod Taylor. Odds are there were a few young receivers who ran some ill-timed routes.
