Update on UNC's Yates

North Carolina coach Butch Davis said Sunday he does not expect injured starting quarterback T.J. Yates to be cleared for full participation in the week leading up to the Nov. 8 Georgia Tech game. Yates broke a bone in his left ankle on Sept. 20 against Virginia Tech and was said to miss at least six weeks. The Tar Heels have a bye this week and the home game against the Yellow Jackets would have been Yates' first chance to play again had six weeks been long enough to heal.

"He's coming back out this week to lightly do some throwing, maybe some individual routes," Davis said. "And maybe, maybe at the end of the week. There's been discussion but no full authority from the medical people to say he might even participate in some seven-on-seven when there's no rush and you don't have to move around in the pocket and stuff. There's no expectation (for him to play) today."

The good news for the Tar Heels is that they have won four of the past five games with backup Cam Sexton.
