The good news for the Hokies is that X-rays were negative on both Tyrod Taylor and Sean Glennon. The bad news is both of them will be wearing protective boots this week and their third-string quarterback, Cory Holt, will be getting most of the reps.

Nothing against Holt, really, but there was probably a reason he hadn't seen the field much until Saturday. Although he definitely played admirably under the circumstances at Florida State.

The problems, though, go deeper than their situation at quarterback. Virginia Tech suffered back-to-back road losses for the first time since it joined the conference in 2004. They still have to play two of the top teams in their respective divisions -- Maryland and rival Virginia. Mixed in there is a trip to Miami. It doesn't bode well for a team that, right now, doesn't look like a championship-caliber team.

Then again, neither did Virginia a few weeks ago.
