Former UNC running back Jamal Womble, a highly touted player who reportedly was going to transfer because of academic issues, could eventually be back at UNC, offensive coordinator John Shoop said on Thursday.
Womble, a redshirt freshman, ran for 41 yards on six carries before breaking his wrist in the sixth game.
"It really hurt losing him in the season to the injury," Shoop said. "When Shaun (Draughn) went down I think Jamal would've carried a significant amount of the load. We were all sad that he was injured and couldn't show what he had then. And we were obviously, like Jamal, disappointed he has to step back and get his grades and everything in order. But I talked to Jamal right before he left and I think he's going to take care of business and it's not the last we've seen of him."
In other UNC news, highly touted backup quarterback Bryn Renner will play baseball this spring for the Tar Heels. Renner won't miss any football practices, though -- not even for baseball games. Check back for a blog entry on UNC's top offensive priority heading into 2010.
