There are still a few nonconference games remaining, but with five weeks to go, the ACC is 33-10 against its nonconference opponents.
It is 14-0 against the FCS little guys this season. That's nice, but it is also why some schools (Georgia Tech, Clemson and Florida State) need seven wins instead of six this year to become bowl eligible. Only one win over an FCS school counts towards bowl eligibility.
Here is how the ACC has fared against its BCS counterparts:
- 2-2 vs. Big East
- 0-1 vs. Big Ten
- 4-0 vs. Big 12
- 1-1 vs. Pac 10
- 3-3 vs. SEC
The ACC was 3-6 against SEC teams last season, but don't forget there are still games against Florida and Georgia hanging out there.
The bottom line is this: The ACC needs to win its bowl games in order to truly get some respect. The league went 2-6 last year in the postseason while the SEC went 7-2. The big one, though, is its 1-9 record in BCS bowls. We'll see if this year's ACC champ -- whoever it is -- can start to change that trend.
