UNC coach Butch Davis finally answered an important question many Tar Heels fans have been wondering: What's going to happen to UNC's quarterback rotation when T.J. Yates is healthy?
Cam Sexton will be your quarterback.
Yates has been cleared to practice sparingly this week. He's not allowed to participate in any team drills where he has to scramble, but he can throw one-on-one to the receivers and play seven-on-seven. It's unclear how far he is from a full recovery, but Davis made it clear he's playing the best guy, and he thinks that guy is Sexton right now.
It's understandable because Yates would likely be rusty, and it's not unusual for a starter to lose his job because of injury. It also happened to Jordan Steffy last season, when he was diagnosed with a concussion, and this season after he suffered a thumb injury. (Funny how that whole thing worked out).
It's unfortunate for Yates, who has had to watch from the sideline. His shoulder kept him out all spring. But Davis is right. He has got to go with the guy who's winning and Sexton has proven capable of doing that. There have been enough changes to UNC's offense this season, and unless Yates suddenly looks like Colt McCoy, I'm not sure there's reason to make another one.
