NC State linebacker Nate Irving has been fully cleared to participate in spring practices, he said in a phone interview this afternoon. Irving suffered left open fibia and tibia fractures in his left leg and separated the AC joint in his left shoulder. He said there isn't anything he won't be allowed to do when the Pack starts practices on March 9.

“I’ve been cleared, so I think I can come back out, contribute, and help some of the guys out if they have any questions or with leadership,” Irving said. “… I just want to provide what I can for the team.”

This is good news for the Pack, who could use some help on defense, but Irving said he won't know how much he'll be able to help until he gets back out there this spring and returns to full contact drills for the first time since his car accident last June. Only in the past month has the pain in his leg subsided, and he began running again about two or three weeks ago.

It will be good to see two of the ACC's best linebackers back on the field this spring in Irving and BC's Mark Herzlich.
