Expectations soaring for Miami's Bailey
By Heather Dinich
ESPN Insider Mel Kiper Jr. recently released a list of five players whose draft stock in 2011 could either skyrocket to their abilities or suffer with their inconsistencies.
The ACC had two players among those five: UNC defensive tackle Marvin Austin and Miami defensive end Allen Bailey. Kiper also mentioned UNC linebacker Bruce Carter. Kiper questions Austin's ability to "bring it on every down," but was more optimistic about Bailey's consistency. There are a lot of expectations hovering over Bailey this offseason.
Dave Curtis and Matt Hayes of The Sporting News wrote: If (Bailey) improves on last year's seven sacks, he'll lead the Canes' best defensive front since the 2001 national champions.
Jorge Milian of the Palm Beach Post wrote: If Bailey can live up to expectations, UM could find itself in the ACC and national championship races.
Them's fightin' words.
It's also a lot of pressure to pin title hopes on one player. Bailey, though, is a microcosm of the entire team -- he hasn't yet reached his potential, but is expected to do so this year.
