Miami wins in USC transfer swap

It was the closest thing to a "trade" you can get in college football -- USC offensive lineman Seantrel Henderson for Miami receiver Thearon Collier.

With all due respect to Collier, who has gone through saddening personal issues, Miami got the better deal.

For starters, Henderson is able to play immediately -- and he likely will. Collier has to sit out a year because of NCAA transfer rules. Collier was not the Canes' top receiver, but he was talented and a valuable member of special teams.

Miami needs more help, though, up front, and there have been rave reviews about Henderson and his rare combination of size and athleticism. His role is likely to increase as the season progresses. Collier is looking for -- and needs -- a fresh start. Because of some off-field issues, Miami's staff was willing to give it to him.
