ACC bowl projections
By Heather Dinich
Maryland and NC State joined Virginia Tech and Florida State as the ACC’s bowl-eligible teams this week, a sign of improvement for both the Terps and the Wolfpack, who missed out on the postseason last year. With a month in the regular season remaining, none of the ACC schools have played their way out of the postseason. Yet.
Boston College is halfway to bowl eligibility and has a good shot at winning its next three, and Clemson is now in a precarious position. If nine teams are bowl-eligible, the ACC’s tie-in to the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl is conditional on whether the Pac-10 or WAC fills the slot.
In the past two weeks, I’ve had Florida State ranked No. 1 in the power rankings, but predicted Virginia Tech to play in the Orange Bowl in an upset. Well, consider it an upset no longer. After the Seminoles lost this past Thursday night, the Hokies are now the team to beat in the ACC.
Here’s a look at this week’s bowl projections:
Orange Bowl: Virginia Tech vs. BCS
Chick-fil-A Bowl: Florida State vs. SEC
Champs Sports Bowl: NC State vs. Big East
Hyundai Sun Bowl: Miami vs. Pac-10
Meineke Car Care Bowl: Maryland vs. Big East
Franklin American Mortgage Music City Bowl: Georgia Tech vs. SEC
Advocare V100 Independence Bowl: North Carolina vs. Mountain West
Eagle Bank Bowl: Boston College vs. Conference USA
