Spring shoes to fill: NC State
By ESPN.com staff
Biggest shoes to fill: Quarterback Russell Wilson
Wilson has yet to decide whether or not he’ll return for his final year of eligibility or continue to pursue a professional baseball career, but he wasn’t around this spring and those within the program have moved on without him. Last year, he led the ACC in total offense (3,998 yards), passing offense (3,563 yards), and touchdown passes (28).
Spring replacement: Mike Glennon.
At 6-foot-6, Glennon is more of a prototypical drop-back passer than Wilson, and as a junior, he’s no stranger to the Wolfpack’s offense. He completed 33-of-52 passes (.635) for 321 yards and a touchdown as Wilson’s backup the past two seasons. Coach Tom O’Brien has expressed nothing but confidence in Glennon this spring, and has compared him to former Boston College quarterback Matt Ryan.
Summer outlook: If and when Wilson decides to return, it won’t matter much to the starting lineup, as O’Brien has said that Wilson will be the backup. The key this summer will be for Glennon to get in extra work with his receivers, as the Wolfpack has to replace two starters in Owen Spencer and Jarvis Williams, who combined for 112 receptions, 1,625 yards and nine touchdowns last year.
