A closer look at Georgia Tech's rookie o-line

Georgia Tech’s offensive line enters the season opener tonight against Western Carolina with a combined 38 career starts. That includes 12 starts by junior Phil Smith, who is suspended for the first two games of the season. That number pales in comparison to other programs with more veteran offensive linemen, as SMU, for example, has 158 combined starts. UAB has 118, Tulsa 114, BYU 106, Florida State 105 and Middle Tennessee State 104.

If Georgia Tech is going to rebound from last year's losing season, the Jackets will need to mature quickly up front. Here's a closer look at their returning starts:

Career Starts / Offensive Line

Omoregie Uzzi – 13

Phil Smith – 12

Will Jackson – 9

Jay Finch – 3

Nick McRae - 1
