Wake Forest edges NC State
By Heather Dinich
Wake Forest did what it couldn't do last week and hung onto to its lead by playing all four quarters.
Despite a comeback threat by NC State, Wake Forest hung on for the 34-27 win. It's an entirely different ballgame when starting quarterback Tanner Price stays healthy and in the lineup. Price, looking so far like the most improved returning quarterback in the ACC, completed 22 of 35 passes for 297 yards, one touchdown and one interception. Receivers Chris Givens, Danny Dembry and Michael Campanaro all answered the call.
NC State's offense finally showed some life, but it was too little, too late.
NC State entered this season trying to build upon last year's nine wins. However, this game already put them behind the Deacs in the Atlantic Division race, and coach Tom O'Brien dropped to 0-11 against division opponents on the road.
Wake Forest deserves credit for not letting last week's overtime loss to Syracuse beat them twice. After just two games, it's pretty clear the Deacs are better than they were last season. Just how much better still remains to be seen.
