Al Golden addresses speculation

By Heather Dinich

Miami coach Al Golden was caught off-guard yet again.

On Tuesday, CBSSports.com reported that Golden’s agent, Brett Senior, said Miami has made “overtures” to Golden about restructuring his contract amid the NCAA investigation that took him by surprise just months after he was hired.

On Wednesday's weekly ACC coaches' teleconference, Golden addressed the issue in his opening statement, and took the time to reaffirm his commitment to the program. Golden's agent is now denying the initial report.

“I just want to make sure I’m clear to everybody that we love it here at Miami,” Golden said. “My wife, kids and I, and the staff, we love it here. We’ve got incredible support from the president and our AD, Shawn Eichorst, and we’re certain that support will continue in a number of ways moving forward."

“It was tough for me, because when I was asked the question yesterday, I didn’t really understand the context,” Golden said. “I had no idea about the story or what was said, or reportedly said and all that. I had a chance to speak with my attorney, and I expressed my displeasure, but again, I love it here."

Golden said it’s not something he should have to address to recruits or his players or the public for long.

“Since I’ve been here, I’ve been committed to turning Miami around and implementing a process and a structure and a culture that will endure,” he said. “We’re just out of the blocks. We’re just out of the gates. I wish these types of things would go away in terms of we don’t need any distractions. We’re just trying to move forward with the program.”
