ESPN's Stats & Information took a closer look at tonight's matchup between Georgia Tech and Virginia Tech. Here's a look inside the numbers, all courtesy of Stats & Info:

Blitz slows Hokies' passing game

Virginia Tech quarterback Logan Thomas and the Hokies' offense struggled to get moving in their 14-10 win over Duke. Much of it had to do with their performance against an added pass rush, according to ESPN Stats & Information. Thomas recorded season lows in completion percentage (10.0), yards per attempt (0.2), and pass efficiency (4.7) when the Blue Devils rushed five or more pass-rushers.

Thomas was 1-10 with two interceptions against Duke's added pass rush. In its last two games, Georgia Tech held two of the ACC’s best passers, Jacory Harris and Tajh Boyd, to a combined 12-26 passing when it sent five or more pass-rushers on a play, including two interceptions and one touchdown.

Thomas progressing from under center

Since starting league play on Oct. 1, Thomas has completed a higher percentage of his passes and has yet to throw an interception against teams currently above .500 (Clemson, and Wake Forest) on snaps from under center.

Hokies’ defense stout once again

Virginia Tech has held opponents to no gain or negative yardage on 275 of 590 snaps this season (46.6 percent). The Hokies have ranked among the top 20 in the FBS in percentage of opponent plays going for no gain or negative yardage in each of the past five seasons, including three seasons in which they ranked among the top 10:

Virginia Tech: 44.1
Alabama: 43.9
Georgia: 43.2
LSU: 42.9
Oklahoma: 41.5

Washington gains yards in bunches

Georgia Tech quarterback Tevin Washington has 23 completions of 20-plus yards this season on just 102 pass attempts. It’s the highest percentage for any player in the past eight seasons. In Georgia Tech’s two losses this season, Washington has just one such pass in 20 attempts.
