ACC in the latest power rankings
By Andrea Adelson
ESPN Stats & Information has released its latest conference power rankings, and the ACC remains in the No. 4 spot through four weeks of the season.
Its lead over the fifth-place Big Ten grew, though, because teams in that league continued their string of shocking upset losses. Iowa and Illinois both lost to teams from non-automatic qualifying conferences. Though Michigan was not favored, the Wolverines lost to Notre Dame as well.
From the ACC perspective, the conference game between Florida State and Clemson did not have much of an impact in the tabulations. In fact, the ACC lost less than a point over its total from last week. Maryland and Virginia both lost their nonconference games, but they fell to higher ranked teams from the Big 12 -- currently in the No. 1 spot in these conference power rankings.
As a refresher, ESPN Stats & Information uses a formula that equally weighs the rankings from the AP Poll and a compilation of available BCS computer rankings in order to determine which conferences are the best and worst in the country.
