ACC Week 12: Did you know?
By Andrea Adelson
Thanks as always to the sports information directors throughout the league, and ESPN's Stats & Information department for this week's notes.
BOSTON COLLEGE: With 1,157 receiving yards to date, Alex Amidon has broken the school’s all-time single-season record formerly held by Brian Brennan, who recorded 1,149 receiving yards in 1983. Amidon enters Saturday’s game against Virginia Tech four receptions shy of breaking BC's single-season reception record held by Andre Callender (76, 2007).
CLEMSON: The Tigers' offense averages 20.9 seconds of possession per play this season, fastest in the ACC and 10th fastest in FBS. ... Clemson has 27 touchdown drives that lasted two minutes or less this season, tied for most in the ACC and tied for fourth most in FBS.
DUKE: Receiver Conner Vernon needs 35 yards receiving to set a ACC career record, currently held by FSU’s Peter Warrick (3,517).
FLORIDA STATE: EJ Manuel has completed 76.5 percent (13-17) of his passes thrown 15 yards or longer in his last two games. Manuel had completed 47.2 percent of such passes in his first eight games of the season.
GEORGIA TECH: The winner of the Georgia Tech-Duke game has scored at least 30 points in each of the past three meetings and in six of the past seven meetings.
MARYLAND: The Terps have had two freshman running backs hit 100 yards rushing this season, a feat that has only been achieved 14 times in school history. Wes Brown rushed for 121 yards on 25 carries against NC State (Oct. 20) to become Maryland’s first 100-yard rusher of the season. That marked just the 13th time in school history that a freshman rushed for 100 yards in a game, and the first since Josh Allen on Oct. 5, 2002. Then, against Clemson, Brandon Ross ran for 100 yards on 16 carries, including a season-long 44-yard run.
MIAMI: Through 10 games, Miami has forced 19 turnovers (nine interceptions, 10 fumbles), four more than the Hurricanes forced in 12 games last season.
NORTH CAROLINA: Receiver Quinshad Davis had a huge game against Virginia on Thursday night, tying an ACC single-game record with 16 receptions, to total 178 yards. It is the second time in three weeks that mark has been tied -- Wake Forest receiver Michael Campanaro also had 16 catches against Boston College earlier this month.
NC STATE: The Wolfpack have won three of their past four games against Top 25 opponents, including a win over then-No. 3 Florida State earlier this season.
VIRGINIA: The Hoos were able to outgain North Carolina on the ground Thursday night (145-127). The losing team has outrushed the winning team only 15 times since 1940.
VIRGINIA TECH: The Hokies have outgained each of their past three opponents, but lost all three games, marking the first time under Frank Beamer that’s happened.
WAKE FOREST: Wake Forest is 1-32 all-time against teams ranked in the top five and has lost 31 straight. Its only win over a top 5 team was a 19-6 win over No. 4 Tennessee on Oct. 26, 1946.
