ACC Heisman Watch: Week 13
By Andrea Adelson
When it comes to the Heisman race, I have as good a shot as an ACC player of getting an invite to the ceremony in New York in a few weeks.
But there is one player in particular who has done enough to merit consideration. Clemson quarterback Tajh Boyd has been outstanding this year, and earned several votes in our weekly ESPN Heisman Watch. He picked up a vote from me this week. Still, he is a distant sixth, well outside the Top 5.
Perhaps he would get more people around the country noticing him if the ACC was having a better year as a conference. Either way, his play has not gone unnoticed in this space. I broke down his outstanding record-setting performance against NC State last week. Now here is a look at his season numbers:
Passing: 240-of-353 for 3,367 yards, 33 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. He already has tied his career high for touchdown passes, which happens to be the third-highest total among all quarterbacks this season. Matt Barkley has thrown for 36 scores; Geno Smith and Seth Doege have thrown for 35.
Rushing: 140 carries for 466 yards, eight touchdowns -- all career highs.
National rankings: No. 2 in pass efficiency, with a career-high rating of 172.7; No. 7 in total offense (348.5 ypg); No. 8 in total passing yards; No. 10 in passing yards per game (306.1 ypg)
