ACC Heisman Watch: Week 14

By Andrea Adelson

We have known for weeks now that there would be no Heisman Trophy winner from the ACC.

But now that the end of the regular season has come, let's spin this forward and take a look at whether Clemson quarterback Tajh Boyd will go into the 2013 season as a preseason Heisman candidate.

Clemson sports information director Tim Bourret provided us with some pretty interesting stats concerning Boyd and the two quarterbacks getting Heisman love right now, Johnny Manziel of Texas A&M and Collin Klein of Kansas State. Boyd ranks first in six of the following eight passing categories. Take a look:

Pass Efficiency
Completion Percentage
Touchdown Passes
Pass Yards/Game
Yards/Pass Attempt
Yards/Completion
Touchdown Responsibility
Total Offense/Game

Boyd did not play his best in the two toughest games of the season, losses to Florida State and South Carolina. To be a true contender, you need some Heisman-worthy moments. So for Boyd to truly be a legitimate candidate next season, he is going to need to step up even more when the stakes are higher. He has the talent, he has the ability and he clearly has the numbers. We will see what next season has in store.
