No rest for Georgia Tech's Snoddy

Tuesdays are not easy for Georgia Tech B-Back Broderick Snoddy, but he takes it all in stride -- literally.
Tuesdays are the most grueling practice day for Georgia Tech’s indoor track team. After a morning full of classes, Snoddy is usually going through a heavy conditioning workout with repetitive sprints from about 1:40 p.m.-2:40 p.m.

And then he goes to football conditioning at 4:30 p.m. Eventually, he finds time to eat and meet with his academic advisor.
So much for the offseason.
What makes it even more impressive is the fact that in his first season with the Yellow Jackets’ track team, Snoddy is winning. Snoddy, a Georgia high school state champ in the 100-meter dash, recently broke a school record in the 60-meter dash Saturday in his first meet. Snoddy passed the previous record (6.77) with a 6.75 in the finals of the Auburn Indoor Invitational in Birmingham, Ala., placing sixth in the event.
“It was something I wanted to do coming out of high school, play football and be able to run track, too,” Snoddy said. “It wasn’t a big deal. [Coach Paul Johnson] just wanted to make sure my grades were pretty good, and stable for me to be able to do both sports.”
Snoddy was a reserve B-back last season, but said he wouldn’t mind also playing some A-back this year. As a redshirt freshman, Snoddy played in all 13 games behind David Sims and Zach Laskey, finishing with 13 carries for 50 yards and one touchdown. Once again, Georgia Tech’s backfield should be crowded, and Snoddy will have some good competition this spring. He said he also plans on running track this spring, but that it wouldn’t interfere with spring football.
Instead, Snoddy is hoping it will help him.
“It will probably help me a lot as far as being in shape and being able to play fast,” he said.
Snoddy said his football winter workouts have been tailored so as not to overdo it.
“Coach [John] Sisk knows I run track so he modifies my workout and I’m not doing so much of a heavy squat,” Snoddy said. “I’m doing bench, incline, press squat, a lot of upper body, not so much lower body.”
Snoddy’s priority is football, and he said he hopes his hard work this offseason translates into a larger role in 2013.
“Hopefully it will increase a lot as far as me getting on the field,” he said. “With a couple of players leaving, maybe I can step up and take a good role.”
