Miami adds another to 2013 class

By Andrea Adelson

Miami added a surprise Insider to its 2013 class, announcing Wednesday it had signed ESPN 300 running back Cornelius Elder.

The 5-foot-10, 170-pound athlete from The Ensworth School in Nashville rushed for 2,618 yards and 39 touchdowns as a senior in 2012. He finished his prep football career with 6,351 rushing yards, 84 touchdowns and three consecutive state titles. The No. 2 prospect on The Tennessean Dandy Dozen was named Mr. Football Back of the Year in 2011 and 2012.

Elder, who also is a standout basketball player, had previously said he would announce his decision Feb. 20, and would choose between Georgia Tech, Vanderbilt, UCLA and Auburn. He also had a basketball scholarship offer from Purdue.

But in making his choice Wednesday, Elder said on his Twitter account, "Just committed to the university of Miami been my favorite school since I was little #blessed glad this over with."

Miami now has signed 18 players to its 2013 class.
