VT RB Michael Holmes could be reinstated
By Heather Dinich
Running back Michael Holmes is no longer facing a felony charge, and could be reinstated, a school spokesman confirmed Friday morning. Holmes was originally facing a felony malicious wounding charge for his alleged involvement in a fight in April.
Athletic director Jim Weaver is the only person who could reinstate Holmes, as long as he is cleared by the university. A school spokesman said Weaver is not in the office this morning, and was not immediately available for comment.
Holmes is not completely off the hook, as he was found guilty of a reduced misdemeanor charge of assault and battery, according to several reports. Holmes was sentenced to a 12-month suspended jail sentence and placed on one year of probation, according to The Washington Post, and he was also ordered to pay $13,403 in restitution and to not have contact with any victims involved in the case.
We will update Holmes' status with the team as soon as it becomes official.
