Ultimate ACC road trip: Week 2
By Heather Dinich and Andrea Adelson
Pack your bags (and your 5-hour Energy drinks), this series is taking you to the best game(s) of the week in the ACC this fall ...
WEEK 2 schedule
Monday, September 2
Friday, September 6
- Florida State at Pittsburgh, ESPN, 8 pm
Saturday, September 7
- Wake Forest at Boston College, ESPN or ESPN2
Our pick: Monday night in the 'Burgh, followed by Florida at Miami
- South Carolina State at Clemson
- Duke at Memphis
- Old Dominion at Maryland
- Florida at Miami
- Middle Tennessee at North Carolina
- Richmond at NC State
- Syracuse at Northwestern
- Oregon at Virginia
- Western Carolina at Virginia Tech
Why you should come along: You can't miss the Labor Day opener at Heinz Field, when Pittsburgh will take on one of the best programs in the ACC in what will be the Panthers' first game as a member of the conference. It will be a nationally-televised game that will mean something to the conference race, and it will be the first chance of the season to see both programs under the direction of their new quarterbacks.
Now, if you've been following along, going to this game means a flight from Greenville-Spartanburg, S.C., to Pittsburgh on Sunday, because the Week 1 road trip featured UNC at South Carolina and Georgia at Clemson. This makes for a tiring, five-day road trip, but which game would you sacrifice? Following the Monday night game, head home and rest up, because your plane to South Florida awaits, and you can't miss the showdown at Sun Life Stadium.
This could be the last time Florida and Miami face each other. Miami athletic director Blake James told ESPN.com's Andrea Adelson during the ACC spring meetings that he has not had any discussions with Florida athletic director Jeremy Foley about extending the series. It's not as if the two programs have been recent rivals, but it's an important game within the state nonetheless, and it will help determine Miami's place in the pecking order.
And for both of these games -- if you think Florida State and Florida are automatic wins, think again. It's part of what could make Week 2 so interesting.
