Boyd still leads ESPN.com Heisman Watch

By Andrea Adelson

Clemson quarterback Tajh Boyd only played a half last week against South Carolina State, but he did not need gaudy numbers to stay atop the latest ESPN.com Heisman Watch.

Boyd remained in first place, due in large part to his performance in a win over Georgia in Week 1. So far on the season, Boyd has thrown for 439 yards with three touchdowns, and also has run for three scores as well. Perhaps just as important, he has not thrown an interception.

This actually marks the first time in his career that Boyd has not thrown a pick in the first two games of the season.

Interestingly enough, Boyd is not rated among the top passers in nation in the latest QBR stats. His rating of 72.2 puts him at No. 49 among all quarterbacks. That is where the ratings can be a little deceiving. Boyd scored five total touchdowns on a Top 10 team in the opener. Perhaps he could have been better, but the Tigers came out with the win and are now No. 3 in large part to their quarterback. The Heisman panel definitely noticed.

Clemson is off this week before opening ACC play next Thursday at NC State.
