ACC in the conference Power Rankings
By Andrea Adelson
The ACC is slowly dropping in the ESPN Stats & Information conference Power Rankings.
For two straight weeks, the ACC has found itself No. 4, behind the SEC, Pac-12 and now the Big 12. Though these conference Power Rankings do not factor into the BCS standings, they are pretty telling when you look at the race to the national championship game.
Florida State stands at No. 2 today in the latest BCS standings, but the belief is that No. 3 Oregon will overtake the Seminoles if they both go undefeated, based on overall conference strength. That is made obvious in these Power Rankings, as the Pac-12 stands 11.5 points better than the ACC at this point in the season. The Big 12 has jumped ahead of the ACC based on its quality at the top. Four teams in the 10-team league have no more than one loss in conference play.
When the conference Power Rankings debuted last month, the ACC was ranked No. 3, behind the SEC and Pac-12. But since then, the conference has taken a bit of a tumble.
