ACC's Ultimate Road Trip: Week 11
By Matt Fortuna
I love me some Thursday night road trips ...
Week 11 schedule
Thursday, Nov. 6
Saturday, Nov. 8
- Clemson at Wake Forest, ESPN, 7:30 p.m.
Our pick: Clemson at Wake Forest AND Duke at Syracuse
- Virginia at Florida State
- Louisville at Boston College
- Georgia Tech at NC State
- Duke at Syracuse
Why you should come along: Who doesn't love Thursday night games? They're fun for those on campus, and they're awesome for those of us who can't wait seven full days between our college football fixes. Throw in the lovely city of Winston-Salem, N.C., along with Wake Forest's beautiful campus, and this one is an easy sell. The game — at least from the comfortable view of six months out — might not seem like one that will be all that close, but getting a chance to see preseason conference contender Clemson this late in the season is an opportunity worth taking advantage of. And if a pregame meal at Bib's Downtown is on the schedule, well, you can tell me where to sign up this very moment. (I think I'm still working off the weight I put on from my last trip there, in 2011.)
With two days between games, we'll hop on a flight up to Syracuse to catch the Orange in action against Duke. It's Syracuse's Senior Day, for one (early, I know), and, conversely, it's Duke's final road game, as the Blue Devils close out their season with three straight games at Wallace Wade Stadium. The Dome, as we know, can be awfully tricky for first-time visitors, with the Orange pulling no shortage of home upsets in recent years. And with a squad that should be improved in Year 2 of the Scott Shafer era, the Orange will have an opportunity for another late-season signature win, with Duke expected to be in the thick of things once again in the Coastal Division race this late in the season. (And yes, in case you're not sold yet, we can try to squeeze in a trip to Dinosaur BBQ, too.)
