Semien drives in go-ahead runs, A's top D-backs 7-4 in 11

A's pitcher makes baserunning blunder

Athletics pitcher Jesse Chavez, who moments earlier got his first career hit, trips over second base on his way to third base. He then runs back to second, but another runner is there, so he runs back to third, where he's tagged out.

PHOENIX -- Marcus Semien's two-run single with the bases loaded and two outs in the 11th inning sent the Oakland Athletics to a 7-4 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Sunday.

Semien's big hit came after singles by Danny Valencia and Stephen Vogt. Josh Phegley was hit by a pitch from Brad Ziegler (1-1) to load the bases.

Ziegler had to escape a bases-loaded jam in the 10th and took the loss against his former team after allowing three runs and six hits in 1 2/3 innings.

Eric Sogard singled in a run off A.J. Schugel to complete the scoring. Switch-pitcher Pat Venditte (1-2) earned his first major league win with two innings of scoreless relief.

The Diamondbacks forced extra innings against Oakland lefty Drew Pomeranz. David Peralta's sacrifice fly drove in Ender Inciarte to tie it 4-all in the ninth.
