Tedy Bruschi, appearing at ESPN The Weekend in Orlando, Fla., took a few moments to give his take about two New England Patriots personnel issues: Randy Moss and Vince Wilfork.
Wilfork
MossBruschi said fans shouldn't get excited over Moss' declaration last weekend that 2010 would be his last season with New England because his contract is up and "the Patriots don't really pay" well.
But Bruschi went on to say if Moss isn't going to approach his supposed final season with a positive attitude, "you've got to trade Randy Moss and hopefully get something for him."
Bruschi also weighed in on Wilfork's situation. The Patriots placed the franchise tag on their mammoth nose tackle while trying to work out a long-term contract. What caught Bruschi's attention was a prepared statement from the team that indicated negotiations weren't progressing.
"This is discouraging, discouraging because they have had a year to get this done with Wilfork, and just like the Patriots said in their statement, unfortunately after numerous attempts and proposals, they still haven't been able to get it done. That means 'We put our best foot forward, and now we still can't sign him.'
"Do you want Vince Wilfork playing for you with the franchise tag? I don't think so because Vince Wilfork is that type of player that wants to know the organization is behind him. The franchise tag is something Vince doesn't want. You give him a long-term deal ... I don't know where his motivations will be, but the franchise tag can be somewhat discouraging to a player in that situation."
