On his first night in Buffalo, before he signed a contract with the Bills, Cornell Green tasted defeat.
The 315-pound offensive tackle was knocked out by a 32-ounce bone-in ribeye.
"Couldn't finish it," Green said of Sunday night's visit to the Buffalo Chophouse. "I tried, man. They had so many appetizers. At the end of the day, that steak was putting me over the top."
Green won't be the player who puts the Bills over the top, but the three-year Oakland Raiders starter did become the Bills' first signing since the free-agency period began Friday.
"They're just a couple pieces away from being a playoff team," Green said. "Hopefully, I can just come in and be a part of that puzzle."
While the rest of the division made significant moves by either trading for, signing or hosting coveted players, the Bills took a more judicious approach.
Green started 12 games at right tackle for the Raiders last year and 16 the year before. He also has played three seasons for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and two apiece for the Denver Broncos and New York Jets.
Green sounded impressed with new Bills coach Chan Gailey.
"No. 1, he wants to change the vibe in here," Green said. "He holds people accountable. He wants to get all of us to come up and workout and just change the climate to make it positive. He's going to ask a lot of us to work hard and be productive in the community. We're professionals, and it's what we do.
"We have to appreciate that also, but I’m very excited to work with Coach Gailey. He gave me a lot of great insight and told me the direction that he wants to go in and I’m going to try everything in my power to help him do that."
