Rich Cimini of the New York Daily News reports the New York Jets are far enough along in working out a trade for Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Lito Sheppard that the two-time Pro Bowler will drop by the Jets' headquarters Saturday. ESPN.com has confirmed the visit.

That's a pretty sexy bulletin for a team trying to get over the hump and fulfill their new head coach's brash prediction of a Super Bowl within a couple years.

Imagine a cornerback duo of Sheppard and Darrelle Revis. The rest of the AFC East would rather not.

Sheppard, who will turn 28 in April, is under contract through 2011. But he has been trying to get the Eagles to deal him.

Here's a passage from Philadelphia Inquirer reporter Les Bowen, who interviewed Eagles president Joe Banner for a Monday story:

"We're open to trading [Sheppard] if we get the right value," Banner said. "Quality cornerbacks are a valuable asset."

Sheppard, replaced as a starter by Asante Samuel and disappointed at not getting traded last year, played far below his two-time Pro Bowl level. By the end of the season, he wasn't playing at all. One would think the price tag would have come down from a year ago, when the Birds were said to have been seeking a first- or high second-round pick for Sheppard.

"I don't really think it is [lower]," Banner said. "His value to us is the same. If we went into training camp and one of our starting corners went down and we'd given away Lito Sheppard, we'd look like idiots."

Jets coach Rex Ryan on Friday brought in two of his former pupils from the Baltimore Ravens defense and will host another on Saturday.

The Jets locked up one of the highest-profile free agents in linebacker Bart Scott, who agreed to a six-year, $48 million deal, and were close to signing cornerback Corey Ivy.

ESPN.com has been informed former Ravens safety Jim Leonhard will visit Saturday.
