Dennis Green believes the Miami Dolphins will sign Michael Vick.
Green, the former NFL coach now working for San Francisco of the startup United Football League, spoke with Sirius NFL Radio on Monday and made a bold observation about the quarterback.
"I have a hard time believing that Michael Vick is not going to wind up with Bill Parcells, simply because he has that creativeness that says that no matter what it takes, he's going to find a way to get Michael Vick," Green said.
"Now, whether it means convincing the commissioner or whatever it takes, Michael Vick is probably going to wind up at Miami because of the fact that Bill Parcells is Bill Parcells."
Rumors of Vick joining the Dolphins circulate because they ushered in the Wildcat fad last year, and many want to see how Vick performs in such an offense. He always has been dangerous on the run, though his arm is limited.
But Vick to the Dolphins -- despite Green's prediction -- is a long shot.
Vick still must be cleared to play by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell. Vick was convicted on federal charges for his role in a dogfighting operation.
Goodell hasn't met with Vick and recently said he doesn't intend to until Vick is released from home confinement on July 20.
Even if Goodell met with him that day and cleared him -- virtually impossible -- would the Dolphins add such a polarizing figure into their locker room 10 days before training camp starts? Vick wouldn't be playing quarterback instead of Chad Pennington, so could Vick knock off that prison rust and learn a new position in such a short amount of time and be a significant contributor?
Doesn't sound worth the considerable risk for a niche player.
Besides, adding Vick would go against what Dolphins general manager Jeff Ireland said April 3, when I asked if they would be any interest in Vick.
"I would say that we don't [have interest in Vick] right now," Ireland said in the only statement anybody connected with the Dolphins front office has made about Vick. "We have three terrific quarterbacks on our roster, and I'm not really interested in going after Michael.
"I don't want to comment further than that. He's still a player on someone else's roster, so I'm not going to go any further than that."
Since then, the Dolphins drafted West Virginia quarterback Pat White in the second round because of what he adds as a Wildcat player.
I don't see Vick going to the Dolphins.
